Celebrating Guru Purnima: The Full Moon in Sagittarius on July 10, 2025

The full moon in Sagittarius is a holy event for the spiritual seeker. We are on the path of our evolution, and this moon is a giant mirror, showing us the reflection of our spiritual growth and commitment. It’s a time of renewal, sharing gratitude for our teachers who have led us through tough times, taught us to learn from our mistakes, helped us to expand, and grow in light.

If your reflection shows that you have expanded in faith and contentment, you will celebrate! You can also take this moment to reaffirm your commitment to your path and continue your journey into the mysteries of life.

If you’ve strayed, know that you are always welcomed back!

The Guru, the dispeller of darkness, embraces you regardless of your missteps. Release guilt and worries, and bask in the grace of the full moon light.

Jupiter is Guru, the great benefactor. He showers us with protection, safeguarding Earth from cosmic debris and calamities more often than we realize. Jupiter bestows knowledge, wisdom, and a sense of awe and wonder.

The Moon’s luminous presence in Sagittarius highlights what we miss when we rely solely on our "small mind." It reminds us to embrace the Guru’s teachings and the mysteries that our rational mind cannot grasp alone. This is a time to open ourselves to the vast unknown and the wisdom it holds.

This Full Moon occurs on Thursday, a day ruled by Jupiter, who also governs Sagittarius. Jupiter supercharges this lunar event from his position with the Sun in Gemini (opposite the Moon). This opposition reflects the remarkable ability of our minds to balance logic and fact-based information with the expansive wisdom of the unseen—our capacity to have faith in the universal force who animates our very existence!

The Essence of Guru Purnima: From Darkness to Light

The word Guru holds profound meaning:

  • Gu means darkness,

  • Ru means the dispeller of darkness.

A Guru removes ignorance and awakens us to the light within. No matter how much information we consume, it remains hollow without divine grace. Imagine a musician who plays with technical perfection but lacks inspiration—the performance feels empty. Similarly, our technological and scientific achievements are meaningless without the awe and wonder of the divine mystery behind them.

Guru Purnima is a celebration of the teachers who guide us through the secrets of the universe. As we receive answers, new questions emerge, and we are rhythmically immersed in the awe and wonder of divine consciousness, drawing us closer to the source.

Why We Need a Guru: Returning to Innocence and Wonder

The Guru’s role is to return us to a state of innocence, curiosity, and wonderment at the magic of the world. They remind us of the light we have always been. This Full Moon falls in Purva Ashadha Nakshatra, which translates to "early victory." This Nakshatra ensures triumph over our limited mind by expanding into our highest self.

Purva Ashadha’s symbol is the elephant tusk, representing the uncovering of hidden talents. Known for its resilience and ability to overcome adversity, this Nakshatra encourages us to rise above challenges and pursue our goals with determination. It embodies invincibility, resilience, and a proactive spirit, inspiring us to live in the present moment and strive for our personal best.

Reconnecting with the Guru Energy

In our modern culture, the concept of the Guru has been overshadowed by fears of mind control and manipulation. Instead of honouring divine wisdom, many have turned to the "gurus" of marketing and money, worshipping brands and billionaires. You see people glorify celebrities and their earthly accomplishments, then abandon them with disappointment when they fall from grace. Isn’t this a form of mind control? Driving our behaviour to purchase and consume unnecessarily?  And distracting us from our natural state of contentment?  We need to see beyond this small thinking.

To reconnect with the truth, the Guru energy, simply sit quietly and turn inward. When you feel yourself expanding, you are touching the Guru, the Self. Reflect on a teacher who has lifted you out of a dark moment by offering knowledge that inspired you.
