In the cosmic dance of the universe, the divine mother and father—the Moon and the Sun—come together in the sign Cancer, the natural house of home, comfort, and emotional nourishment. This celestial union occurs in front of the stars of Pushya Nakshatra which embodies the essence of nurturing and care. Pushya is situated in the heart of Cancer, reminding us of our own inner sanctuary, the heart, encouraging us to embrace this lunar cycle of love and nourishment.
This is a time to focus on nurturing— firstly ourselves, and then with a full cup, our families, pets and loved ones. It’s a period for learning to truly receive, allowing the healing waters of Cancer to dissolve our burdens. It’s an ideal time for a family vacation, especially near water, to cool, calm and release unnecessary emotional baggage.
The Sun in Cancer casts its radiant light on the area of heart and home, showing us whether we are nurturing what truly matters or neglecting our most important relationships. This is a time to ask ourselves if we giving enough time and attention to those who depend on us? Are we tending to our own emotional well-being? The Sun’s illumination reminds us that the most vital thing in life is LOVE.
The Moon, in its ever-changing phases, teaches us about the patterns of feelings and behaviours we recycle endlessly, driven by past impressions/perceptions. It acts as a cosmic mirror, reflecting our emotional cycles so that we may learn from them and grow in self-awareness. Through this reflection, we can begin to understand the loops we’ve been trapped in and take steps toward emotional evolution.
Pushya’s Deity: Brihaspati, the Guru of Compassion
Pushya’s ruling deity is Brihaspati, the Guru of the gods and the embodiment of divine wisdom. Brihaspati teaches us that true guidance does not come from intellectualizing, but from being present in the heart of compassion. His wisdom shows us how to navigate even the most challenging situations by doing what is right, even when it’s difficult.
One of the most profound stories in Vedic mythology is that of Brihaspati and Budh. Despite the pain and emotional turmoil caused by his wife Tara’s infidelity with Soma, Brihaspati chose to rise above his suffering. Tara gave birth to a child, Budh (Mercury), who was not Brihaspati’s own, yet the Guru chose to see the divine potential within the boy.
Instead of succumbing to bitterness, Brihaspati embraced his role as a teacher and nurturer. He raised Budh as his own, imparting the principles of intellect, curiosity, and the joy of learning. Under Brihaspati’s compassionate guidance, Budh grew to embody the qualities of Mercury—quick thinking, communication, and the freedom of mental exploration. Budh’s natural curiosity and lightness of mind are a testament to the transformative power of Brihaspati’s wisdom and love.
Through this nurturing wisdom, we are invited to reflect on our own cycles of love, compassion, and emotional growth. This is a time to nurture ourselves and those around us, to release old patterns, and to embrace the healing power of love and wisdom. Just as Brihaspati chose compassion over pain, we too can elevate our energy, moving from inertia to inspiration, and from blame to understanding.
In the end, the story of Brihaspati and Budh is a reminder that even in the most challenging circumstances, we have the power to choose love, to nurture growth, and to find the divine potential within ourselves and others through cosmic wisdom.
Mercury joins this new moon in Cancer in his retrograde motion, inviting us to tune inwards to the stories of love and hurt that we tell ourselves. We can look at how these stories either hold us down as we communicate reactively/defensively or how we can transform and elevate our stories to include compassion, understanding and freedom from emotional burdens.
Try journalling all of the pain so it is released and then offer that writing to the fire and truly forgive so you can be free.
Have a magical holiday somewhere and let your heart be fluid and free
Blessings

Elise
