New moon in Scorpio - Lifting out of the darkness

Nov 30/Dec 1 2024

The new moon in Scorpio is often an intense one as it is the sign where we feel most vulnerable. Mercury is Retrograde with the new moon, and Mars, the ruler of Scorpio is at it’s weakest. Overall, our energy levels are low, we feel lazy and want to sleep in longer, we seek comfort and notice that our discipline is lacking.

Scorpio is where we experience our deepest fears and insecurities around losing control, especially with the people we love. We guard our hearts and suit up for battle. We lash out with words that sting or bury ourselves deep in our cave and brood over feelings of insecurity. Our job for this new moon is to face these fears and encourage ourselves out of hiding realizing there is something more powerful at play here.

The Nakshatra of this new moon is Anuradha, symbolized by the lotus. Like a lotus, we are born in the dense, thick mud and must travel through the dark waters of our emotions to reach the surface and meet the light. Only in loving acceptance of our muddy roots are we able to open to the radiance of the sun and fully blossom.

The deity associated with Anuradha is Mitra, the god of friendship. To help us travel the stormy waters of our mind and moods, we need to become dear friends with our highest Self. Anuradha tells the story of Radha, who devoted herself to Krishna through unwavering friendship. Radha helps us to dive fearlessly inward to meet our Beloved, who is patiently waiting for us to wake up, and come visit.

So during these times of low energy levels, lack of discipline and drive, Radha shows us that we can lean into another source of energy… devotion.

Devotion is simply that sense of upliftment we experience when we listen to beautifully composed music or hear a tale of selfless love.

You can connect with classical or devotional music and feel yourself expand. Or, do some gentle yoga/dance, without the goal of fitness, and notice how much you can savour the movement, elongating and making space within. Or you can practice some pranayama (breath) and sit in meditation and notice how deep you can go without effort.

When we are filled with the love of the divine, our armour naturally melts away and we emerge into the light again.
